Search Begins for Future Rural Leaders
13 Apr 2004

The search is on for women and men with a commitment and capacity to shape the future direction of rural and regional Australia. Applications are now invited for the next round of the Australian Rural Leadership Program.

The program’s principle objective is to improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of rural Australia - its industries, communities and people - through investment in leadership development . It does this by seeking highly motivated women and men already actively involved in their industries and communities, but with a commitment and capacity to take on higher leadership roles.

The program seeks to build future leaders, by exposing participants to real issues critical to rural Australia-its industries and communities, through interaction with key people in industry, government and community, in Australia and overseas. It seeks to challenge participants to build on the skills and knowledge and the networks critical to effective leadership.

The course is hands on and demanding, it comprises some 60 days conducted over a 18 month period and involves a combination of workshops and discussions and outdoor education, both interstate and overseas.

Applications are open for a period of three months and close on 30 June 2004. Application forms are available from the Foundation by email: info@arlp.net.au or phone: (02) 6281 0680 or can be downloaded from the Foundation’s website: www.rural-leaders.com.au Applications must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation.

Successful applicants will receive a scholarship from one of the Program’s valued sponsors. As the majority of sponsors provide scholarships tied to specific commodities, industries, sectors or states, it is important that applicants provide sufficient and relevant background information.

Successful applicants are required to attend all sessions of the course and are encouraged to actively participate in and support the graduates’ association.

Following close of applications, the Foundation will conduct the first round of interviews at a regional level between September and October, with the final selection scheduled for November this year.
