NFF Election Results 22 Jun 2004
Mr Peter Corish was re-elected President of the National Farmers’ Federation unopposed and Mr Charles Burke was elected as the new Vice President at the NFF Annual Conference in Canberra this morning. Mr Geoffrey Crick was also re-elected unopposed to position of Treasurer. All three positions will be held for the next 12 months. Mr Burke was elected unopposed and will take over as Vice President from Mr Wayne Cornish who has held the position since 1998.
“Wayne Cornish has been an outstanding Vice President for the past six years and he has been heavily involved with rural training and skills issues on behalf of farmers,” Mr Corish said. “Wayne has also been the Chair of our 25th Anniversary Celebrations Task Force this year. We thank Wayne for his strong contribution to NFF as Vice President over a crucial period. Mr Burke has experience as an NFF Committee Chair, he has Chaired the NFF Drought Task Force since it was created last year and we welcome him to the NFF Board.”
Mr Burke manages a family cattle property situated on Lake Somerset in the Brisbane Valley, Queensland. He has been the Chair of the NFF Farm Business and Economics Committee since it was created in 2003 and has served at NFF Committee level since 2001. Mr Corish was elected President at the NFF Annual Conference in Carnarvon, Western Australia, in May 2002. He owns and operates a farming business based in Goondiwindi, Queensland, with properties in New South Wales and Queensland.
Under the new NFF structure endorsed today, the new NFF Board consists of President, Vice President and Treasurer, and four representatives from NFF member organisations. Elections for these four Board positions were also held today. The new board members are Mal Peters (New South Wales Farmers Association), Barry Court (Pastoralists’ and Graziers’ Association of WA), Paul Weller (Victorian Farmers Federation) and Keith Adams (Cattle Council of Australia).
NFF Committee Chairs were also elected. The Land and Native Vegetation Taskforce will be chaired by Larry Acton (AgForce) and the Water Taskforce will be chaired by Paul Weller (VFF). Charles Burke (AgForce) will chair the Farm Business & Economics Committee; Duncan Fraser (NSWFA) will chair the Industrial Relations Committee; Allan Burgess (Australian Dairy Farmers Limited) will chair the Trade Committee and Keith Adams (CCA) will chair the Quarantine and Animal Health Taskforce. Wayne Cornish will chair the Farm Chemicals Sub Committee.
