Fifty-four rural Telstra exchange areas need upgrades: ACA
18 Aug 2003

The Australian Communications Authority has identified 54 Telstra exchange service areas in regional Australia that are in need of urgent upgrade. The areas were identified by information from Telstra and the Network Reliability Framework from January to June 2003.

ACA said consumers in these areas could expect service and reliability improvements over the next year. Communications Minister Richard Alston said the areas were identified as part of the Government's response to the Estens inquiry into regional telecommunications. But he signalled that fixing the problems with these areas was "not the end of the game". The ACA will continue to monitor network reliability and, where necessary, Telstra will be required to provide remediation.
