Herbicides, GM expert at TeXpo
19 Aug 2003

WA wheatbelt growers will be given an insight into future farm production systems at a major event to be staged by Elders and CSBP in conjunction with the Plant Protection Society of WA on Thursday, August 21, from 10am to 4.30pm.

At the Elders Tech Site, 4km north of Carrabin on Westonia Road, the inaugural Carrabin TeXpo will offer the opportunity to view variety, nutrition and fungicide trials, a soil pit, seed dressings, precision farming, the biological control of wild radish and Flexi-N liquid nitrogen.

The keynote speaker will be Professor Steve Powles, director of the WA Herbicide Resistance Initiative at the University of WA. Professor Powles is a world expert on herbicide resistance and he will discuss the use of herbicides for weed control. He is also chairman of the technical committee advising the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator, so can speak about genetically modified crops and their production.

Farm Weekly, 14/8/03.
