Dorber signals bid to join AWI board 20 Aug 2003
Col Dorber, the former managing director of Australian Wool Innovation, has indicated he wants to stand for election to the board. He announced his intention last week at the Roseville Park Merino field day at Narromine in NSW. He is believed to have stated that many producers want him to stand, and although he was sacked following the former board's defeat in October 2002, his reason is not "sour grapes".
Elections for AWI's seven-member board will be held on November 21, with three seats up for election at this stage, including that of Dr Chris Abell. Three weeks ago, AWI chairman Ian McLachlan said the organisation would seriously consider nominations for any candidate who could add value.
If Mr Dorber proceeds with his intentions, the incumbent board will have to decide whether to accept the nomination or make Mr Dorber get endorsement from 1,840 shareholders, equal to 5 per cent of total shareholders.
