Govt chips in $43m for Vic farmers
21 Aug 2003

Victorian farmers have received more than $43 million during the current drought from federal government assistance, official figures show. More than 5,500 Victoria farming families have received financial assistance through exceptional circumstances funding and interim measures.

EC support totalled $22.9 million, while income support was provided to 1,871 families. Interim assistance, during which farmers receive six-monthly support, has delivered nearly $21.5 million to more than 3,700 households. EC interest rate subsidies have been received by 727 households.

Nationally, drought relief expenditure has exceeded $212 million, with more than 26,200 applications for EC or interim support approved.
