Drought-busting rain brings joy to Vic farmers
25 Aug 2003

Wild weekend weather brought relief to the drought-ravaged bush, with farmers rejoicing as rains fell on crops and winter pasture. Dams and rainwater tanks - almost empty just weeks ago - are now overflowing in some of Victoria's driest regions.

Areas of the Mallee received up to 30mm of rain at the weekend, while parts of the north-east received more than 100mm.

There could be more to come, with widespread rain forecast towards next weekend. Victorian farmers will welcome any extra rain, which should provide a perfect finish to one of their best months in many years.

Herald Sun, 25/8/03, page 7.
