SA wind farm plan breezes through
29 Aug 2003

Hydro Tasmania's proposal to build a 66-megawatt wind farm on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula has won final regulatory approval. The application to build the wind farm at Cathedral Rocks has been approved by the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula. Construction should begin in April 2004.

Hydro Tasmania says the wind farm will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 244,000 tonnes each year, equivalent to taking around 42,000 cars off the road.

The company has begun construction of the second phase of a 130MW wind farm at Woolnorth, in Tasmania's far north-west, and recently extended a wind farm on King Island. It also has development approvals pending for wind farms at Musselroe and Heemskirk, both in Tasmania.
