Ethanol fears '20 years out of date' 15 Sep 2003
Australia's pro-ethanol lobby has brought in a US "fuel expert", Larry Johnson, who will address the Federal Coalition on Wednesday on behalf of the Australian Coalition for Ethanol. Mr Johnson flew in last week and said he was "outraged" over the negative propaganda circulating in Australia about ethanol, capped off with the damning claim from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industry that 10 per cent of ethanol in fuel could damage the engines of around four million cars.
Mr Johnson has demanded that the Howard Government release the report, which he described as "bogus" and "preposterous". He said the US has these arguments 20 years ago.
Mr Johnson claims the Australian ethanol industry could be worth $6 billion one day if it is accepted by the Australian public. It produces cleaner air and jobs, he said.
