Agriculture Dept defiant on AWI claims
18 Sep 2003

The Federal Agriculture Department has defended its decision not to take any action against Australian Wool Innovation in 2002, despite claims of mismanagement and nepotism. Department secretary Mike Taylor said there was no evidence that AWI was not complying with its statutory funding obligations.

In August 2003, the Senate was informed that the former head of AWI, Col Dorber, had misused funds and employed his children. He is also reported to have hired a public relations company to campaign for existing board members during a woolgrowers' ballot, using AWI funds.

The Australian, 18/9/03, page 2.
