Royal Melbourne Show ends with a bark, not a whimper
29 Sep 2003

Organisers of the Royal Melbourne Show expect the final attendance figures to be up on 2002, despite safety scares on two carnival rides. The Show ended on Sunday September 28, with Royal Agricultural Society head Stephen Carter saying he expected figures to be up on 2002 by about 9 per cent, or around 520,000 for the 11 days.

The safety incidents, on the Mad Mouse ride and the chairlift, were "unfortunate", Mr Carter said, but apart from that over half a million people came and had a fantastic time.

On the last day of the Show there were several dog competitions, including Dog with the Waggliest Tail, Best Kept Dog, Best Mannered Dog, Most Lovable Pet and Trickster of the Show.

The Age, 29/9/03.
