Vic dairies face new food safety audit 15 Oct 2003
A new method of auditing Victorian dairy farms for food safety will come into force on December 1, 2003. It will be conducted by dairy companies and become part of their quality assurance programs. Unlike in NSW and other states, Dairy Food Safety Victoria will not be auditing every farm, but will oversee the audits conducted by dairy companies.
DFSV will, however, be conducting random inspections of farms but they won't be coming unannounced. Farmers will need to have their farms audited every two years minimum to maintain their dairy licences.
DFSV CEO Anne Astin said the new system is necessary to provide confidence to consumers and markets that the Victorian dairy industry is serious when it comes to ensuring food safety.
