Futuris logs on telco buy for rural network
16 Oct 2003

Futuris Corporation, the parent of the Elders farm services network, has bought 19 per cent of Perth-based broadband services provider Amcom Telecommunications for $5.5 million.

Futuris Corp executive director Tony Davies said the investment was a "toe in the water" to help address the communications needs of Elders' 100,000-strong farmer client base, as well as those of the Elders' 300-strong branch network.

Mr Davies said Amcom will assist Elders to respond to major carriers, believed to be Telstra and Optus, to offer telecommunications services through the Elders' network.

Australian Financial Review, 16/10/03.
