New low cost Qantas carrier to boost tourism in regions
17 Oct 2003

Qantas's new low-cost domestic airline will open up more regional areas to tourism, TTF Australia's Chris Brown says. It will allow a whole new group of people to travel, sometimes for the first time. But more importantly, it will allow Qantas to go back into regional areas where it couldn't afford to run profitably before. It should give the Northern Territory, tropical North Queensland, areas of WA and other regions a great boost, he said.

The new carrier is also expected to encourage more overseas travellers into rural and regional Australia, as it will link up with Qantas's low-cost international carrier Australian Airlines. Depending on the routes, it will encourage international travellers to get out beyond the cities and into the regions.
