Farming exports on the rise
31 Oct 2003

Australia's farm export receipts rose in September 2003 for the first time in six months. Agricultural goods exports rose 11 per cent in September, up $188 million - the largest monthly increase in two years. The improvement is expected to continue as winter crops are harvested, although Treasurer Peter Costello said on October 30 that the drought has still not broken.

Meat producers' exports, comprising about one quarter of all agricultural exports, rose to $446 million in September, an increase of $51 million - the biggest rise in five months. Cereal export receipts also rose, to a four-month high, as did wool exports, which jumped to a six-month high.

Australian Financial Review, 31/10/03.
