Water cuts hit farmers
14 Nov 2003

Farmers' investment decisions are already being affected by potential cuts in irrigation water from the Murray River, according to a report compiled by the Bureau of Transport and Regional Economics. The report found that uncertainty about water access and reliability is a major barrier to farm investment.

The Bureau also found that Government plans to put more water into the Murray is starting to hit investment too, even though there has been no agreement on the proposal yet. The volume of water ultimately returned to the Murray will make an impact on the amount of water available to irrigators.

The Daily Telegraph, 14/11/03, page 27.
