A stepping stone for rural youth 18 Nov 2003
The Country Education Foundation of Australia provides communities with support to give school leavers incentives to develop their education and skills. The foundation's objective is to invest in and encourage rural youth, helping to promote their personal development and to take the next step after schooling.
The foundation provides between $250 and $2500 to selected candidates to help them cover costs to pursue their chosen educational or skills-based development.
School leavers are funded for the cost of accommodation, transport, tools, books, tuition fees or other fees associated with further education. The GrainCorp Foundation is the major sponsor, in addition to private sponsors, and the patron is former deputy Prime Minister, Tim Fischer.
To join the program, towns need to set up their own foundation and raise $10,000 a year, including support from the Country Education Foundation.
Rural towns wishing to join the Country Education Foundation can call Katie Walker on (02) 6226 1933 or e-mail CountryFound@bigpond.com.
