Farm work's image muddied, talks told
17 Jun 2004

Agricultural industries are having a problem recruiting young workers because of an image problem, the chairwoman of the Tasmanian Industry Advisory Group told a forum in Launceston yesterday. Jennifer Logie said farm work is perceived as being dirty, unskilled and low-paying. But the industry needs to increase recruitment if Tasmania's State of Growth targets are to be met.

The forum was attended by representatives of the Tasmanian Farmers' and Graziers' Association, the Vineyards Association of Tasmania, stone fruit growers, government departments and TAFE colleges.

The Mercury, 17/6/04.
