Bid for olive oil exchange
21 Jun 2004

Olive oil marketer Piquant Blue is seeking to establish an Australian olive oil exchange. CEO Andrew Konowalous said the exchange is part of Piquant Blue's aim to export bulk olive oil into the international market, which accounts for 2.5 billion litres annually.

Setting up a system under which European buyers would bid for premium Australian oils would also establish a true market price for Australian olive oil, Mr Konowalous said. Strict legal requirements and olive oil testing would reduce the risks for both buyers and sellers.

Piquant Blue would take a commission from sellers joining the exchange.

The West Australian, 21/6/04.
