Telstra's bush services a 'shemozzle'

Dick Estens, the farmer who headed a Federal Government inquiry into rural and regional telecommunications services, believes many bush services are still a "shemozzle". Mr Estens said he's still having problems with his own phones despite millions of dollars being spent on upgrades after last year's inquiry.
Mr Estens, who made 39 recommendations in his review, said there are still ongoing problems in the bush, such as failing landlines and slow Internet services. The National Farmers' Federation said bush services are improving but too slowly. It won't support Telstra's sale until service levels are adequate.
The new Telstra chairman, farmer Don McGauchie, is expected to use his position to argue for more spending in rural services. He supports the full sale of Telstra.
