GrainCorp upbeat on forecasts
29 Jul 2004

GrainCorp yesterday forecast an above-average harvest of Winter crops for 2004-2005 of 13 million tonnes; the forecast is based on average rainfall for the remainder of the year. The long-term average winter crop receival is 12 million tonnes; in 2003-2004, GrainCorp received 10.8 million tonnes of winter crops.

The summer 2004 crop receival has been revised upwards to one million tonnes from 800,000 tonnes. An estimate of summer crop receivals will be provided in January.

Graincorp said that planting has been completed in its southern division and the area is "looking excellent". In the central division planting has also been completed but regular rainfall is needed in the coming months. In the northern division the crop forecast is small.

The Age, 29/7/04.
