Taylors to cap all its wines
30 Jul 2004

Clare Valley-based Taylors Wines will become the first major Australian wine producer to use screw caps for all its wines, ditching cork. Taylors has been using screw caps on its white wines since 2000, but will to switch all its wines from cork from next month. The company said the change is for reasons of integrity, to guard against cork taint and improve its wines' longevity. About 5 per cent of all Australian wine is estimated to suffer from cork taint every year.

Taylors' general manager Neil Jericho said if a company such as Coca-Cola were using something that created such a large problem it would not be tolerated. He said Clare Valley winemakers started using screw caps several years ago and consumer feedback has been positive.

The Advertiser, 30/7/04.
