CBA banking managers go walkabout
18 Aug 2004

The Commonwealth Bank has taken business managers out of some NSW rural branches and replaced them with "travelling business banking specialists". Eight business banking positions were cut from branches in the towns of Mudgee, Parkes, Young, Goulburn, Gunnedah and Inverell.

The bank said the cuts left a net reduction of just one position, with the business bankers replaced by "mobile lenders". CBA's clarification was in response to the Finance Sector Union's claims that the move had left the towns with no business banking services.

CBA's GM of NSW business banking said the travelling managers would provide business services to the towns. He stated that, in some cases, it's a "change in our services model".

Australian Financial Review, 18/8/04.
