Competition, improved quality reporting for telecoms in the bush

The National Farmers' Federation has welcomed the announcement of Optus as the third national Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme satellite internet service provider. NFF president Peter Corish said now there are three Government-approved providers which can give a quality guaranteed Internet service anywhere in rural Australia at dramatically reduced prices. This is good for competition and for farmers.
Over the past month both Regional Broadband Services and Telstra became the first providers to be registered under the HiBIS.
Mr Corish said ongoing telecommunication service quality is paramount to rural Australia, as is access to equitable telecoms services. Farmers and rural communities want to get on with their business and family activities without the impediment of poor quality services, he stated.
The NFF is continuing to pursue the goal of equivalent levels of telecoms service in rural areas with those in urban Australia.
