Juice that tames clots
27 Aug 2004

A 250-ml glass of tomato juice a day could keep blood clots away for people with cardiovascular disease, according to a University of Newcastle study. After drinking the juice every day for three weeks, a group of people with diabetes experienced much reduced clotting activity.

The research looked at how susceptible the platelets were to clotting before and after the daily tomato juice. Platelet activity decreased following supplementation with tomato juice compared with the placebo group.

Although the study only looked at tomato juice's anti-clotting effects in people with diabetes, the researcher said tomato juice would benefit anybody at risk of cardiovascular disease.

The Australian, 27/8/04.
