Cattle leave electronic tracks
7 Sep 2004

The Queensland government resolved a dispute with the cattle industry over a livestock identification system that aims to track meat from the paddock to the plate. Every animal transported nationwide must be fitted with an electronic tag by the middle of 2005. Graziers who move cattle directly from their property to slaughter or live export will have immunity for the first two years of the scheme.
