Farmers count the cost of going green

The National Farmers' Federation wants the next government to provide up to $1 billion to pay landholders to conserve native vegetation and keep vermin and weeds off their properties. NFF president Peter Corish said farmers were bearing the cost for the community's demands to preserve native vegetation without any compensation or incentive to lock up tracts of land.
