Water savings would offset water cuts
10 Sep 2004

Lower water allocations to irrigators in the Murray-Darling Basin would cost the economy about 400 jobs and $88 million a year, according to a study by the Centre for International Economics. The study is based on a 10 per cent, or 540-gigalitre, cut in allocations. The study also found an improvement in water use efficiency of just 1.3 per cent would offset the losses from a 10 per cent cut.
