Processors pulp citrus grower margins 13 Sep 2004
About 200 growers in New South Wales citrus industry are refusing to sign contracts with key processors Berri and Golden Circle. The two processors propose to pay less than the cost of production of $220 to $250 a tonne for juicing fruit, says Lou Sartor, from the Griffith Citrus Growers Group. Sartor says that growers require $300 a tonne to achieve financial sustainability. Both Berri and Golden Circle say they aren't planning to increase their offer at this stage.
