Drought kicks boot makers 14 Sep 2004
Australia's rural boot makers sell most of their products to the city feet. But the drought is so severe that rural sales are falling and the supply and quality of skins is in decline. Blundstone's chief executive Steve Gunn said rural sales had fallen by about 10 per cent. He said that early in the drought the supply of hides boomed as properties turned off stock. But now there was more danger of inferior hides from animals in poorer condition.
