El Nino becckons as temperature rise
17 Sep 2004

The chance of hotter, drier days in south-eastern Australia is rising, according to the latest three month outlook from the Bureau of Meteorology. The outlook for rain has shifted towards below average in the southeast of the country and parts of northern Tasmania, while the rest of Australia still has a 50 per cent chance. The weather bureau says that it is sticking to its position that it's still too early to say for sure if the El Nino weather pattern associated with prolonged below average rain will return, even though several, but not all of the indicators, have hit their El Nino thresholds.
