Timber soaks up rainfall

Timber plantations in some areas are using more water than the average rainfall, leaving little water for other agricultural uses. CSIRO Richard Benyon says that in most plantations, once the canopy has closed they're using all the rainfall and thus there is little if any recharge. In South Australia, there's a cap on the amount of land available for forestry.
