Locusts take to wing in early heat 15 Oct 2004
Plague locusts have taken to wing in parts of western NSW and also in northern Victoria. The number of reported hatchings in the Dubbo Rural Lands Protection Board area topped 1000 as the heat sped up development of what is predicted to be the worst locust plague in 25 years. More than 4000 hatching sites have been reported across New South Wales, and double last week's estimate.
