Aussie labels aid buffalo meat scam
25 Oct 2004

European Union and German officials are examining the use of false meat labels from Australia on potentially contaminated Indian water buffalo meat. German news weekly Der Spiegel reported that labels and health certificates for meat shipments bound for Russia had been faked to say the meat was from Australia or Brazil. Der Spiegel said similar cases had turned up at three German Baltic Sea ports. The buffalo meat is thought to be contaminated with foot and mouth disease.
