Orchardist offers to raze trees 25 Oct 2004
The owners of Queensland’s largest citrus orchard have offered to destroy their trees in a bid to counter a fresh outbreak of citrus canker that threatens $200 million a year in citrus exports. The plan would involve digging up 326,000 fruit trees in the district of Emerald in central Queensland. The canker outbreak was found in early October. All farms within a 7km radius were placed under quarantine.
