Beef exports hope to hold on to gains in Japan
26 Oct 2004

Australian beef exporters say they are confident of holding a reasonable slice of increased sales to Japan, now that Japan will allow beef imports from the US once again. Australia's market share of beef imports to Japan climbed to more than 90 per cent from less than 50 per cent following the ban imposed last year on US beef. US beef will return to the market in about two months time. However, beef consumption in Japan fell by 15 per cent over the last year.
