Records tumble in the beef industry
28 Oct 2004

Demand from Asia for beef, along with cheaper feed grain, have helped set a new record for the number of cattle in feedlots. The Australian Lot Feeders Association estimated that 759,000 head of cattle were now raised at feedlots, an increase of 17,000 on the prior record level set three years ago. Demand from Japan for the marbled beef associated with grain-fed cattle has encouraged farmers to raise larger herds at feedlots.
