Commission finds competition policy aids farmers 28 Oct 2004
A draft review of national competition policy by the Productivity Commission found that the policy improved returns to farmers. The review does find that competition policy hasn't worked in water. Productivity Commission chairman, Gary Banks said that national competition policy has helped reduce some of the costs for farmers, such as reducing the cost of electricity, where prices have fallen over some range by as much as 30 per cent in some areas; and costs had also fallen in freight and communications.
