Cotton season kicks off
29 Oct 2004

The Australian Cotton Industry Council estimated that between 300,000 and 320,000 hectares of cotton will be grown in the 2005 season, resulting in a crop of 2.3 million to 2.4 million bales. The council said this was an improvement on last year's drought-affected crop of 196,000 ha that produced 1.53 million bales. Increased irrigation and satisfactory rain early in the year has encouraged growers to sow more land.
