Electronic tags tracking tomatoes 29 Oct 2004
Moraitis, one of Australia's largest fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers, will be the first in the country to test radio frequency identification tags on cases of tomatoes, in a bid to improve supply chain efficiencies. The tags will help vendors and buyers know when produce was picked, its origin, and also monitor deliveries. The company's Con Colovos says even though no major supermarket uses the system, he says it won't be long before they do.
