Rain falls but drought assistance still flows
16 Nov 2004

Recent rains in eastern Australia are too late to improve many winter crops, but may aid farmers as they prepare summer crops. Parts of northern Victoria have received twice their typical November rainfall, only half way through the month. In one sign of the rain, drought declarations in New South Wales fell to 67 per cent of the state’s area, down from 79 per cent in October. The NSW government said cropping areas in the south-east were needed more rains. While the NSW government is reducing drought declaration, any existing federal government assistance won’t be affected.
