Exporter pulls the pin on citrus 18 Nov 2004
Paramount Export Company, a major exporter, has shut down its business and blamed the decision on the widening impact of citrus canker. Paramount was among the biggest fruit buyers in Queensland. Queensland’s citrus industry is affected by canker in the Emerald district. Citrus growers expect they will receive clearance for the destruction of all 326,000 citrus trees in the region. However, Queensland growers want a tax or levy imposed on citrus sales by growers in other states, to pay for the cost of the tree removal program.
