Exports underpin dairy recovery 18 Nov 2004
Farm gate prices for milk increased by three per cent over the year to June 2004, to 27.9 cents a litre, up from 27.1 cents a litre in 2003. Data compiled by Dairy Australia also shows long term growth in milk production, at 3.5 per cent a year since 1990. The value of exports increased at an average 12.5 per cent a year. Dairy Australia also said that dairy farmers currently were carrying more debt than in recent years, due to having to reinvest after the drought.
