US and Thai free trade agreements in force from January 19 Nov 2004
Australia's free trade agreement with Thailand will take effect from January 1, after the Senate yesterday passed the implementing legislation. Half of Thailand's trade barriers covering 80 per cent of Australian exports would be eliminated, with new opportunities in agriculture, processed food, mining and the automotive sector. January is also the confirmed date for the commencement of the US Australia free trade agreement. Ninety-seven per cent of Australian exports to the US will be duty free under the agreement.
