Growers go nuts over macadmias
26 Nov 2004

New macadamia plantations are being planted thanks to the highest farm gate prices in 13 years. Big plantings in Queensland will increase the number of macadamia trees to six million from five million. Growers in Queensland and northern NSW have just finished harvesting 44,000 tonnes of nut-in-shell, a 25 per cent increase on the previous best year. Despite the higher yield, the average farm gate price was $3.50, the best nominal price since 1991.
