Irrigators may carry over water rights
1 Dec 2004

The Victorian Government may allow irrigators to carry over unused sales water into the next season, a shift of the present policy of “use or lose”. This may create an incentive for irrigators to dispense with the common practice of dumping water onto their farms at the end of the season, with irrigators able to use or sell the carryover to other irrigators for the following spring. The government expects the carry over could smooth prices on the temporary water market and increase efficiency.
