Wheat crop tipped to be smaller than expected
7 Dec 2004

Australia's wheat crop may fall even lower than official forecasts. Perth-based research group ProFarmer, said that informed trade opinion was for a wheat crop of between 19.5 million tonnes and 20 million tonnes, with some estimates as low as 18 million tonnes. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics last week forecast a crop of 20.2 million tonnes, down 19 per cent on last year. ProFarmer said the yields were hard to pick as a result of frosts and the premature end to spring. The Age, 07/12/04
