Hidden wool stockpile suppresses sales 7 Feb 2005
On-farm storage of unsold wool could inflate the level of wool stocks by more than 50 per cent, with more than one million bales in need of a buyer. The Australian Wool Exchange says the official number of bales known to be in storage was about 650,000. The AWE believes that with subdued wool prices in recent years, and the increased price of storage, many farmers are holding their stocks on-farm. There have been some very high pass in rates at sales over the last 12 months.
