Skilled migrants welcomed in the bush
22 Mar 2005

The federal government will make migration by skilled workers willing to fill vacancies in rural and remote areas easier. Prospective migrants will be given an advantage if they are willing to fill skills shortages in particular regional areas. It is not clear which skill categories will qualify for the easier access, or how the government will ensure migrants work for a time outside of cities. There appear to be no plans at this stage to ease the entry of unskilled migrants, a demand of some farming lobbies.
