Farmers say conditions look brighter 23 Mar 2005
Farmers, particularly Victorian dairy farmers, are a bit happier, but low prices are still keeping the spirits of most on the land subdued, Rabobank's latest rural confidence survey has found. Twenty-eight per cent of primary producers believe the agricultural economy will improve in the next year, up from 20 per cent in the previous quarter. Confidence was up strongly in Victoria and Tasmania, with dairy farmers much happier, but remained weak among other farm types. Nationally, the number of farmers with a negative outlook fell from 31 per cent to 28 per cent.
